Zen Biometrics

Zen Biometrics is a venture from ARQUIMEA that aims to democratize the preventive mental healthcare.

Problem

The next global pandemic

One in three people faces extreme stress, which prolonged effects can
escalate into chronic conditions as heart disease, cirrhosis or diabetes.
Prolonged stress is not only linked to premature death, but also demonstrated to increase the risk of mental health diseases, being those considered the next global burden.
In Europe, stress-related problems cost around €280 billion annually in lost productivity and healthcare.

Solution

Real-time and Cotinous Cortisol Monitoring

Cortisol, known as “the stress homone”, is the most reliable indicator for stress. Its levels rise and fall naturally throughout the day and can spike in response to stress.
Current methods to monitor cortisol levels provide measurements for one or a few time-points. But to date no technology has enabled the continuous, real-time monitoring of cortisol.

Opportunity

A worldwide market

Addison’s disease, an orphan condition, represents a smaller but critically important market with critical needs. Patients with Addison’s require lifelong monitoring of their cortisol levels to manage their condition effectively and avoid potentially life-threatening adrenal crises.
The scientific community is increasingly interested in understanding the link between cortisol and various diseases. Despite this, there is currently no available method for real-time, continuous cortisol monitoring, which highlights the crucial role and unique value of our solution in improving patient care and management.

WHY NOW

Collition of tech maturity, social needs and market trends

The convergence of advanced technology, evolving social attitudes, and growing market needs creates a perfect storm for innovation in cortisol monitoring. Recent breakthroughs in microneedle technology will enable minimally invasive, real-time measurement of cortisol levels, offering valuable insights into stress and mental health.
Additionally, the rising acceptance of wearable technology reflects a growing willingness among people to embrace new methods for health monitoring.
With mental health issues becoming more prominent, Zen Biometrics is well-positioned to meet the urgent demand for improved stress management and implement mental health preventive strategies.
