Madrid, October 23, 2025. ARQUIMEA, a technology company with over 20 years of experience in the space sector, is taking part in SpainSat NG II, the second satellite in Hisdesat’s SpainSat NG program for secure communications. The launch is scheduled for Thursday, October 23, from Cape Canaveral, United States.
The SpainSat NG II satellite is the twin of SpainSat NG I, which was launched in January 2025 and is already in orbit. ARQUIMEA has participated in both satellites, contributing its technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities in two critical areas. On one hand, the company has been responsible for co-engineering, detailed design, manufacturing, and integration support of the thermal control system for the satellite’s active antenna. On the other, it has carried out the manufacturing and qualification of two microchips —one analog and one digital— designed for control, telemetry data measurement, and active antenna pointing on SpainSat NG II. These critical technologies help ensure the proper operation and reliability of the active antennas on both satellites.
The thermal control system of the active antenna is based on a network of Heat Pipes (HPs) and Loop Heat Pipes (LHPs), which enable the extraction, transport, and dissipation of the heat generated by the active antennas toward the satellite’s radiators. This thermal engineering assembly, developed with submillimeter tolerances, has represented a highly complex technical challenge due to space constraints and the integration of multiple electronic interfaces.
In addition, ARQUIMEA has designed and qualified custom analog and digital microchips (ASICs) that control and monitor the performance of the active antennas. More than 4,000 units have been manufactured for the program, designed to operate continuously in the harsh conditions of space, resistant to radiation, vacuum, and thermal variations.
The launch of SpainSat NG II represents a new step forward in Spain’s space capabilities and the strengthening of its critical secure satellite communications infrastructure. This space program will expand the network of protected governmental communications, ensuring interference-resistant, global coverage for the Spanish Armed Forces, the European Union, NATO, and strategic allies.
Through its participation in the SpainSat NG program, ARQUIMEA reaffirms its role as a strategic technological partner in high-demand programs and its contribution to strengthening Europe’s space capabilities, at a time the Director of the Spanish Space Agency has described as “historic” for the national sector.
ARQUIMEA is a leading supplier in the development of space components and systems, with over 20 years of experience and participation in more than 180 missions. The company possesses advanced technical capabilities, deep industry expertise, and world-class facilities that enable it to manufacture thermo-structural systems for telecommunications, observation, navigation, and space exploration satellites.
