ARQUIMEA has successfully completed the PRE2POS project

The project is part of Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme.

PRE2POS is a European H2020 project focused on the industrialisation and commercialisation of rotary actuators using an innovative motor that takes advantage of the micrometric deformation displacement of piezoelectric stacks to achieve infinite rotary or linear motion.

The project has been executed by ARQUIMEA, a European reference supplier of parts and systems for space and hi-rel applications, and PHI DRIVE, an Italian company specialized in design and production of high-precision drives and positioning systems.

The final goal is to include these rotary actuators in key equipment and mechanisms used in spacecraft, where high precision, low weight, energy efficiency and low manufacturing costs are constantly sought by End Users.

The main advantages of the proposed technology are the extremely high resolution; high torque/mass ratio, no need for mechanical brakes and absence of gears, which means no backlash motion. Furthermore, these actuators use completely oil-/lubricant-free motor components.

The primal target applications of this technology are Solar Array Drive Mechanisms, Antenna Pointing Mechanisms and Deployment Mechanisms. It can also be used in secondary markets as automation, metrology, military or optics.

With this project, ARQUIMEA continues to pursue the research and development of new cutting-edge off-the-shelf and custom actuators and mechanisms for space applications.
